Since the antiquity (amphitheater of the Palace Gallien), every period is represented in the city (especially the middles ages, very present with Saint Seurin Basilica, the Saint Andre Cathedral, the Cailhau and the “Big Bell” fortified doors).
Then head to the Grand Theatre, national opera built in 1781, the Tourny alleys as well as the outstanding 3 miles long facade of the quays and the wine merchant’s storehouses including the former “Royal Square” today known as “Place de la Bourse” Bordeaux is also an alive and livened up city, with uncountable shops (fashion, wines, antiques, leather craft…) which offers the longest pedestrian “shopping street” of Europe.
