During this tour your your Licensed Tour Guide will pick you up from your hotel and drive you to Saint Emilion which is both a great and world famous vineyard and an intact medieval town.Both of them are remarkable and have been classed at the UNESCO sites of the World Heritage.
This luminous, ochre-colored jewel built of limestone and Roman roof tiles, is perched on a plateau and completely surrounded by a sea of vineyards. The steep and narrow cobblestone streets are lined with remnants of monasteries and convents dating from the 11th to 18th centuries that tell the story of the village.
Your guide will comment the major steps of the city’s development, from its origins to today, and take you deep into the secrets of the village, before unveiling the mysteries of the monolithic church and its catacombs dug out of the limestone cliff between the 9th and the 11th centuries. Its 38 metre scale makes it the vastest such church in Europe.
Finally, enjoy a wine tasting at Grands Crus Classés wine estates.
The vineyard includes 18 “Premiers Grands Crus Classés” (A & B) and 65 “Grands Crus Classés”, and also thousands of less known family estates producing excellent wines, All of them mainly made of Merlot and Cabernet franc-grape varieties.
